DWIGHT DATCHER
ATHLETICS DIRECTOR

In January 2006 Dwight Datcher was named as the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Howard.  Thus begins a new era in athletics leadership at the University.

Datcher brings a wealth of experience to the position.  He came to Howard from Georgetown University where he served as associate director of athletics and played an integral part in the program.

Prior to his experience at Georgetown, Datcher served as director of athletics at the University of the District of Columbia from 1992-97.

It has not taken long for Datcher to make his imprint on the Howard program.  He set up the first-ever athletics' forum with Howard coach, student-athletes, alumni and staff to discuss the state of Howard athletics.  He was also instrumental in the completion of the new floor in Burr Gymnasium as making it possible for some of Howard supporters to view various athletics events via video streaming.

From 1985-1992, Datcher served as the head men's basketball coach at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.  During his tenure as coach, Datcher became the assistant director of athletics and later the director of athletics.  In 1988, he was named an assistant men's basketball coach by the US Olympic Association.

A native Washingtonian, Datcher began his coaching career as an assistant with Georgetown's men's basketball program after receiving his degree from Roger Williams in 1974.  He later assumed the head coaching position at famed St. Anthony's High School in Washington, DC where he compiled an outstanding 144-44 record during an eight-year tenure.

Datcher was a four-year starter on the men's basketball team at Roger Williams.
