Gil Jackson is in his third season as Head Men's Basketball Coach at Howard. Prior to Howard, Jackson served as an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania for 16 years.

During his tenure at UPenn, the Quakers won nine Ivy League championships and earned nine berths to the NCAA tournament.

Jackson's coaching career started at Sanford High School in Hockessin, DE where he was twice named coach of the year in the state. He then moved on to Penn for a16-year tenure with Fran Dunphy as his assistant coach at one of the most successful programs during that time period.

Jackson emphasizes a simple philosophy of full-court pressure with strong play on the defensive end. "My goal is for us to be able to compete every game," said Jackson. "We're going to be tough on the defensive end of the floor and we're going to be in great condition. This will enable us to be a strong transition team." He is a strong believer in academic accountability for his players.

Jackson has Bison fans excited about the future, having already signed five players who make up what is being called the top recruiting class in the conference.  That, along with the return of several key returning players, has the Howard program in position to become one of the tops in the MEAC.

He is a 1969 graduate of Elizabethtown College.
