My Life as a NASCAR Consumer Marketing Intern

Jaime Bowman is a senior sports management major at Howard University. She works in the sports information office at HU and will blog, about once a week, about her summer internship at NASCAR.

This past week, actually the last month and half, has been hectic for me. What is it that's been keeping me busy you ask? Well it's definitely not running to make copies or fetch coffee, unless they are for me; it's probably the jumping from plane to plane every weekend.

I have been busy with the extra responsibilities and tasks that I have been given since returning for my second summer as the NASCAR Consumer Marketing intern.  I began my internship May 4th and immediately got to work at 9:01 a.m. when I stepped in the door.  My first assignment was to plan a grand prize trip for the winners of the NASCAR Kinetics program who were flown down to Charlotte, N.C. and taken to all of the NASCAR All-Star Race Weekend festivities. Although I was sad to not be planning for my fellow HU students who unfortunately lost the competition, it was fun to plan every detail of the trip including meetings with top NASCAR execs, trips to the tracks, and even dinners at posh Charlotte restaurants.

After returning from the Queen City, I got straight to work and began planning for the DUB Auto Show tour which I will be following during the summer.  So far I've been to Detroit, Dallas and recently to Phoenix.  For the DUB shows I'm responsible for everything within the NASCAR booth including the staff, the step up, the vehicles that participate, etc.  At times it can be a little nerve racking because every little detail counts, but in the end it is exciting to see how it all turns out and see fans enjoy what NASCAR has to offer.

After Phoenix I'll only have the Charlotte and Chicago show, June 20th and Aug 1st, respectively, so there will be new task and responsibilities ahead for me.  I'll be sure to let you know what's next in store for me! If you are in the area and want to come to one of the above shows, feel free to email me (jbowman@nascar.com) and I'll get you some passes.  Check out the show's website at dubshowtour.com!
