Feb 6, 2008Howard Signs 21 to Letters of Intent![]() WASHINGTON, D.C. - In an attempt address several needs, especially along the offensive and defensive lines, the Howard football staff is confident it accomplished its mission. Coach Carey Bailey, who completed his first season as head coach, announced 21 recruits for the upcoming season. Howard signed seven offensive linemen, three defensive linemen, three running backs, three linebackers, one quarterback, two defensive backs and two wide receivers. Davin Morris (6-4, 315/Houston, TX/Yates HS), Terrell Hawkins (6-4, 320/Temple Hills, MD/Friendly HS), Terell Killings (6-4, 290/Miami, FL/Northwestern HS), Jarrett Ford (6-3, 280/Cincinnati, OH/Harmony Community HS), D'Angelo Lucas (6-6, 360/Washington, DC/H.D. Woodson HS), Kashin McElveen (6-4, 320/Salters, SC/C.E. Murray HS) and Quindarole King (6-4, 310/Texas City, TX/LaMarque HS) bring size and depth to an offensive line lost four starters. Jeraman Bonnette (6-4, 280/St. Matthews, SC/Calhoun County HS), Aramide Adefemiwa (6-6, 310/Commack, NY/Nassau CC) and Ashton Wilder (6-4, 290/Newark, NJ/Malcolm X Shabazz HS) will be expected to help right away on the defensive line which was hurt by injuries and lack of depth last season. "We were able to bring some quality offensive and defensive linemen," said Howard Coach Carey Bailey. "Those were two important areas for us and I am pleased with the recruits that we signed." Brandon Drayton (5-9, 170/Miami, FL/Northwestern HS), Jahmaine Rodriguez (5-10, 190/Commack, NY/Nassau CC) and Charles Brice (6-0, 180/Columbia, SC/Keenan HS) bring some much needed speed to the backfield. "We needed some home run hitters at the running back position and we feel that we have addressed that with the young people we are bringing in," added Bailey. Quarterback Jarad Dorsey (6-2, 180/Ellenwood, GA/Martin Luther King Jr HS) figures to get a chance to battle for the backup slot behind projected starter Floyd Haigler, who is the only returning QB. Safeties Bruce Cabell (6-0, 190/Joliet, IL/Joliet JC) and DeCarlos Knight (6-0, 190/Nashville, TN/Pearl-Cohn HS) should bring depth to the secondary as should linebackers Glynn Jones (5-10, 215/Kennesaw, GA/North Cobb HS), DeAngelo Moody (6-3, 225/Denmark, DC/Denmark-Olar HS) and Keith Pough (6-2, 220/Summerton, SC/Scotts Branch HS). Quintin Powell (6-3, 180/Houston, TX/Yates HS) and Willie Carter (6-2, 180/Denmark, DC/Denmark-Olar HS) bring size and speed to the receiving corp. "Overall, I am pleased with the class we were able to bring in," said Bailey. "We were able to get a bunch of East Coast kids as well as some local kids. We have a combination of some older players from the JC's and other transfers who will help the maturation of some of the younger players." The players are broken down geographically as South Carolina (6), Texas (3), Florida (2), Georgia (2), New York (2) and one each from New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, DC, Tennessee, Illinois and Ohio.
