Series Information
The Bulldogs have won five straight, including last year's 59-21 rout at Greene Stadium.  They hold a commanding 27-10 advantage in the series dating back to 1971.  Coach Pough is 5-1 vs. Howard.

The Game
This is a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match-up between the Bison of Howard University and the Bulldogs of South Carolina State University.  The Bison (1-7 overall, 0-5 in the MEAC) are still looking for their first conference win of the season after dropping a 49-12 home loss to Norfolk State University this past Saturday for their fourth straight loss.   The Bulldogs (7-2 overall, 5-0 in the MEAC) won their fifth straight, a 23-17 decision over Delaware State on Saturday in Dover, DE.

The Coaches
South Carolina State is coached by Oliver "Buddy" Pough (S.C. State '75), who is in his seventh season and has a 54-23 career record to date.  Prior to coaching at SC State, Pough spent five seasons at the University of South Carolina as running backs coach.  He also experienced success as a high school coach in the state of South Carolina.    

Howard Coach Carey Bailey (Tennessee ‘92) is in his second season after serving as an assistant at the University Minnesota.  Bailey was the defensive line coach there and under his tutelage, the Gophers led the nation in turnover margin (plus 1.33).  Bailey also gained a wealth of experience in stints at Oklahoma State, Middle Tennessee State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Virginia Military Institute and at West Virginia. 

Next Up
The Bison will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman on November 15 at 4 p.m. while the Bulldogs will travel to Baltimore, Md. for an important showdown with the Bears of Morgan State on November 15 at 4 p.m.

The Bison offense is led by red-shirt junior QB FLOYD HAIGLER (194 of 341, 2,045 yards, 15 TDs, 15 interceptions), senior RB KARLOS WHITTAKER (91 carries, 327 yards carries, 3 TDs), senior WR ARLANDUS HOOD (44 receptions, 459 yards, 1 TD), junior WR BRANDON SHERMAN (36 receptions, 466 yards, 3 TDs), junior WR/RB RAMON "RAY RAY" MCELRATHBEY (27 carries, 186 yards, 2 TDs; 22 receptions, 166 yards, 2 TDs) and red-shirt freshman WR DALEY GUNTER (15 receptions, 182 yards, 1 TD).

Defensively, Howard is led by senior All-American candidate, MLB ENDOR COOPER (61 solos, 39 assists, 13.5 tackles for losses, 3.0 sacks, 4 forced fumbles), junior SS ARANDO JAMISON (24 solos, 33 assists, 7.0 tackles for losses, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery), sophomore LB PATRICK JEAN-MARY (18 solos, 21 assists, 4.5 tackles for a loss), junior DL JAMES CARTER (16 solos, 20 assists, 6.5 tackles for losses, 2.0 sacks, a forced fumble) and JAMES ROBINSON (10 solos, 12 assists, 4.0 tackles for losses), and junior DL WILL CRONER (17 solos, 10 assists, 3.0 tackles for losses and 3 fumble recoveries).

Bison Hooves
In MEAC statistics, the Bison are first in passing offense, third in first downs and in third down conversion...Haigler leads the MEAC in passing and in total offense...he ranks sixth nationally in passing yards and is 16th in passing yards per game...Hood is second in receptions per game and fourth in receiving yards per game...Sherman is tied for third in receptions per game and seventh in receiving yards per game...freshman Brandon Drayton is third in punt returns...Cooper leads the MEAC in tackles for losses, in solos tackles and in forced fumbles...he leads the country in solo tackles, is tied for second in forced fumbles and is third in total tackles...Will Croner leads all players in the conference in fumble recoveries and is tied for first nationally...Haigler is a native of Orangeburg, having played his prep ball Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School...the Bison have 11 players on the roster from the state of South Carolina, including six starters...the coaching staff is also represented...James Moses, a native of Orangeburg, is the associate head coach, and James Darby, the running backs coach, played at State from 1986-89.
