WASHINGTON, D.C. - Willie Carter has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance in Saturday's loss to Delaware State.
A 6-3, 190-pound sophomore from Denmark, S.C., Carter returned the second half kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown, the first of his career. Carter, who was the 2008 MEAC Rookie of the Year as a wide receiver, took on kick and punt return duties early in the season and became an instant threat.
For the day, Carter finished with 120 yards on 3 returns. It marked the first time that a Howard player has returned a kick for a TD since Jonathan Brewer did it against South Carolina State in November of 1999.
