Carter Named To MEAC Preseason Team
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Willie Carter has been named
to the 2010 Pre-Season All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team by
the conference coaches and sports information directors.
The 6-3, 190-pound junior wide receiver/return specialist is coming
off an outstanding season. The native of Denmark, SC caught a
career-high 46 passes for 630 yards and 5TDs. Carter, who was often
double teamed by opponents, averaged almost 14 yards per reception
and led the team in scoring with 36 points.
Carter was able to display his versatility by returning punts
for an average of 10 yards per return. He was even more effective
as a kick return specialist, returning 10 for an average of 26
yards per return that included his first ever return for a score, a
92-yard jaunt against Delaware State.
The talented Carter is taking aim on team receiving records. As a
freshman, he caught a team-high 44 passes for 447 yards and a
team-high 6 TDs while playing in only six games after injuring a
knee that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He earned
MEAC Rookie of the Year honors, making him only the second player
in school history to be so honored.
Carter has already eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in receiving and
has 11 TD receptions in only 17 games.
