Tallahassee, FL—January 23---Tony Tate scored what would prove to be deciding basket with four seconds remaining to lift Florida A&M University to a 66-65 win over Howard University in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men’s game at Gaither Gymnasium.
The Rattlers (10-9 overall, 6-2 in the MEAC) appeared to have the game won after Tate’s basket, but a technical foul was called against FAMU after a fan ran onto the floor, resulting in two free throws for the Bison (2-14 overall, 1-6 in the MEAC).
Howard senior point guard Louis Ford missed the first, but made the second as the Bison still had possession with two ticks on the clock. Junior forward Darryl Hudson attempted a three-point shot that missed as the buzzer sounded and the Bison had suffered still another tough loss.
Howard led 41-36 at the half, but FAMU’s Rome Sanders (20 points) caught fire and got his team back into the game which proved to be a nip-and-tuck affair in the second half.
The Bison were again led by Hudson, who tallied 14 while Tate, this week’s MEAC Player of the Week, finished with 10.
Howard will try to snap an eight-game skid when it travels to Baltimore, MD to take on Coppin State College on Saturday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m.
