Howard Men Fall’s to Hampton
HOWARD MEN FALLS TO HAMPTON
Hampton, Va.—The Howard University men’s basketball team lost its third straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match-up, falling to Hampton University, 48-65, at the Hampton Convocation Center.
Howard (2-11, 1-3 MEAC) appeared to be down early as Hampton started the game on a 12-5 run. The Pirates would go us by as many as 9 mid-way through the first half but the Bison would go on a 6-0 run fuelled by a couple of three-pointers by Darek “Skip” Mitchell and Will Gant followed by some turnovers by Hampton to take its first lead of the game, 19-22, with 7½ minutes left in the first half. The Bison would go up by as many as 5 but Hampton would rebound hitting two baskets to close out the first half tied at 30.
The second half belonged to Bruce Brown and the Hampton Pirates
(4-7, 3-1 MEAC). Brown scored 13 of his 19 points in the
second half as the Pirates went on a 7-0 run to start the
half. The Pirates would go up by as many as 16 with a little
less than eight minutes remaining in the game and would eventually
win by 17.
Mitchell was the only Bison to score in double-figures finishing the game with 14. Jaz Cowan scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Pirates.
The Bison will have four days off before returning to the hardwood to host the league leading Hornets of Delaware State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., this Saturday, January 14.
