Hudson and Myatt Combine To Give Bison First Win

Cincinnati, OH-November 12-Darryl Hudson poured in a game-high 25 points and Eugene Myatt contributed 23 to lead Howard University to an 86-81 win over the University of Tennessee-Martin in the Jim Thorpe Classic at the First Third Arena.

Hudson, a 6-4 senior forward had an outstanding tournament, tallying 59 points in three games and almost assuring himself a spot on the all-tournament team.  Hudson did most of his damage around the basket, hitting on 7 of 12 from the field while Myatt scored in a variety of ways with a 9-for-15 shooting performance.

"It was good to finally finish on top," said Howard Coach Gil Jackson.  "We have been in situations like this before and have struggled, so it was good to finally win one."

Jackson was referring to Howard having an 11-point lead late in the second half, only to have the Skyhawks rally and cut the deficit to two.  But the Bison (1-2) knocked down five straight free throws down the stretch to seal the deal, prompting Jackson to joke, "We sure do make it exciting, don't we?"

Howard got important contributions from senior guard Will Gant, who tallied 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range, and freshman point guard Julius Hearn, who recorded a career-high 5 assists.
UTM (1-2) was led by Gerald Robinson with 23 points off the bench and Will Lewis, who recorded a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.

NEXT UP: Howard travels to Philadelphia, PA to take on LaSalle University on Tuesday, November 21 at 7 pm.
