Bison Lose To Delaware State on the Road

Dover, DE-January 13-Jahsha Bluntt scored a game-high 18 points to lead four players in double figures as Delaware State held off Howard, 66-57 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's game at Memorial Hall.

This game had many of the same characteristics as the previous three for the Bison (6-11 overall, 2-3 in the MEAC) who remain competitive through most of the game, yet are unable to make the plays that matter down the stretch.

Howard cut what was a 13-point second half deficit to two late in the game, but a couple of ill-advised shots and untimely turnovers proved to be too much to overcome as the veteran Hornets (7-9 overall, 4-0 in the MEAC) capitalized with key baskets from Bluntt and clutch free throw shooting from Darren Shine, who was four-for-four from the charity stripe in the last two minutes.

Senior guard Will Gant, who paced Howard with 16 points and senior forward Darryl Hudson, who chipped in with 13 led the way, but no other Bison player reached double figures.

The Bison, who came into the game as one of the better free throw shooting teams in the MEAC at close to 70 percent, missed 9 of 16 and finished with a season-low 40 percent.

Troy Roundtree and Roy Bright each had 12 for Delaware State while Shine tallied 10 to round out the balanced attack.

GAME NOTES:  Jason Trotter grabbed 10 rebounds, the fourth time this season that he has reached double figures in that category...Darek "Skip" Mitchell came off the bench to score 9 points in 15 minutes and freshman Kandi Mukole contributed 8 points in a reserve capacity...Howard's three conference road losses were for a combined 15 points.

UP NEXT: The Bison begin a seven-game home stand next Saturday when they host Bethune-Cookman College at 4 pm in Burr Gymnasium.
