The Coaches
Howard is coached by Gil Jackson (Elizabethtown College,
'69), who is in his third season and has a 19-49 career record to
date. UIC is coached by Jimmy Collins (New Mexico State,
'70), who is in his 12th season and has a 189-164 career record to
date there.
Flames Notes
UIC is one of the top shot blocking teams in the country with 5.4
per game...Vandermeer has 36 for an average of over 3 per game
while Dailey has 13...Mayo leads the team in scoring and in steals
(13) and Stewart is averaging over 4 assists per game...the Flames
are shooting 47 percent from the field as a team and 45 percent
from beyond the stripe.
Bison Hooves
The Bison have had a different starting lineup in every game due to
injuries...the team lost projected starting point guard and Chicago
native Julius Hearn before the season started to a knee injury that
required surgery...then both freshman forward Adam Walker and
freshman guard Kyle Riley went down with injuries just before the
season opener...they both returned only to have starting forward
Randy Hampton suffer a concussion in the game against Hampton that
caused him to miss the past three games...and if that was not
enough, starting point guard Jeron Smith suffered a knee injury
following a dunk in the game against American University that
forced him to miss the past two games...and to complete the
nightmare, leading scorer Eugene Myatt injured his knee in the VMI
game causing him to miss the Northwestern game...Myatt leads the
team in scoring, in three-point shooting, in assists and in minutes
played...Riley led the team in scoring for the second straight
game, collecting 14 against Northwestern...he also had a
career-best 4 assists...the Bison had 8 blocked shots against
Northwestern bringing the season total to 53...Adam Walker picked
up three in that game, bringing his team-high total to
14...Kirkpatrick, who has had back-to-back good games, recorded a
block, bringing his total to a career-best 12 on the season...as a
team, Howard is shooting only 26 percent from three-point
range...the Bison have had troubles rebounding as their opponents
hold a 10-rebound per game advantage...Myatt's 30 three-point
baskets are more than he scored in the previous two seasons
combined.
