Howard Announces Men's Basketball Signees

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Howard University announces the 2009 recruiting class for men's basketball.  This year's recruiting class features six top players who should prove to be great additions to the Bison's fortunes this coming season.  The student athletes are Dadrian Collins, Gary Lawrence, Tyreak Johnson, Anton Dickerson, Charles DeCosta, and Mike Phillips.

Dadrian Collins is a 6-5 forward who played his prep ball at national powerhouse Montrose Christian Academy (Rockville, MD).  Collins is ranked 9th in the DC/MD/VA class of 2009 by dcmetrosports.com recruiting guru, Van Johnson.

Gary Lawrence is a 6-6 forward from Chestnut Hill Academy (Philadelphia, PA).  In the 2008-09 season Lawrence was selected All-Inter-Academic League First Team selection and in 2008 All-Inter-Academic League MVP.

Tyreak Johnson is a 6-0 guard that comes from famed St. Raymond's High School (Bronx, NY).  In his senior year, Johnson was named to the All-New York City Catholic High School Athletic Association second team.

Anton Dickerson is a 6-2 guard who hails from Boys & Girls High School (Brooklyn, NY).  He has been ranked the Number 3 performer at the Hoop Group Elite Camp while leading his team to the championship.

Charles Decosta is a 6-8 forward from Living Faith Christian Academy (Pennsauken, NJ).  He will be counted on to bring much needed depth and size to the Bison frontcourt.

Mike Phillips is a 6-7 from River Bend High School (Fredericksburg, VA).  He ended up as the all-time leading scorer in River Bend High School history.  Phillips was named to All Commonwealth District first team for two years and has been nominated for McDonald's All-American Team.
