Boxscore

CORVALLIS, ORE. - Oregon State jumped out to a 21-2 lead and never looked back in disposing of Howard University, 90-54 in a non-conference men's game at Gill Coliseum.

Using the three-point shot as its primary weapon, the Beavers hit on 8 of 10 in the first 20 minutes to take a commanding 42-15 lead at the half.  Omari Johnson and Calvin Haynes combined for 31 of the points on a sizzling 6 of 9 from beyond the arc.

The Bison (1-7), who have had problems scoring of late, missed 13 of their first 14 shots and compounded their problems with 12 first half turnovers.

The win avenged a 47-45 loss by Oregon State to Howard back on November 14 in Washington, DC.

For the game, the Beavers (4-5) shot a season-high 64 percent, including 70 percent from three-point range.  In the second half, Rickey Claitt and Wallace Lathan got into the act by scoring 29 points between them.  They were a perfect 7-for -7 from three-point range.

The Bison played better in the second half, shooting 42 percent.

Eugene Myatt led Howard by scoring 11 of his team-high 13 points in the second half while Paul Kirkpatrick tallied all of his 11 after intermission.

Johnson led all scorers with 18 while Haynes (17), Lathen (16) and Claitt (15) all reached double figures.
