WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Curtis White scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, but it was not enough the balanced attack of Winston-Salem State was too much to overcome as Howard University dropped a 62-58 decision to the Rams in a non-conference men's basketball game at the C.E. Gaines Center.

The Bison (6-18) fell behind by as many as 13 in the second half before White fueled a comeback that narrowed the deficit to four with time still remaining.  But the Rams (9-12) got a free throw and a basket by Paul Davis and two free throws by Shelton Carter to hand Howard its third straight loss.

White, who hit on 6 of 13 from the field, including 5 of 11 from beyond the stripe, scored the Bison's last nine points, six on two NBA-range three pointers and three free throws after being fouled on an attempt.

WSSU got balanced scoring from Carter, who led the Rams with 15, Davis with 14 and Brain Fisher, who contributed 10.  The Rams won the battle in the paint, 34-18, points off turnovers. 18-7 and bench production, 25-13.

Sophomore guard Calvin Thompson off the bench to tally 12 points while also dishing out six assists and grabbing six rebounds.  Reserve freshman forward Mike Phillips had one of his better game in recent weeks as he scored all eight of his points after intermission while grabbing rebounds in 14 minutes

NEXT UP: Howard will try to snap its current three-game skid when it gets back into conference play on Monday against the Bulldogs of South Carolina State at 7:30 pm in Orangeburg, SC.  The Rams will host the Pirates of Hampton University at 7:30 pm in the C.E Gaines Center.
