Bison Remain Winless After Loss to Canisius
BUFFALO, N.Y. - Julius Coles poured in a career-high 27 points to lead Canisius College to a 70-54 win over Howard University in a non-conference men's basketball game at the Koessler Athletic Center.
The Bison (0-7) remain winless while the Griffs improve to 3-1.
Howard stayed close through most of the first and trailed only 30-25 at the half. The Bison then got a boost to start the second half and used a 14-4 run to take a 39-34 advantage.
But Coles began to take charge and spurred the hosts as they went on to put the game away with a 36-15 run. Howard helped the Griffs' cause by committing 19 turnovers that the hosts converted into 19 points.
Sophomore guard Kyle Riley led Howard with 11 points but leading scorer Calvin Thompson, who came into the game averaging almost 15 points per game, was held to six points on 2-of-12 shooting. The 6-3 sophomore guard did grab a career-high 10 rebounds and dished out four assists.
Freshman guard Tyreak Johnson made the first start of his career and responded with a career-high nine points and four assists. Dadrian Collins, a freshman forward, came off the bench to tally eight points while center Paul Kirkpatrick grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds as a reserve for the Bison.
Greg Logins and Frank Turner scored 14 and 13, respectively for the Griffs, who had a season-low nine turnovers.
NEXT UP: Howard will try again to get its first win of the season when it travels to American University on Tuesday at 7 pm in Bender Arena.
