Pellum, Simpson Lead Hampton To Easy Win Over Howard
HAMPTON, VA. - Darrion Pellum and Vincent Simpson each scored 22 points to lead Hampton University to an easy 90-42 win over Howard in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season finale at the Convocation Center.
The Pirates (13-17 overall, 8-8 in the MEAC), who have five in a row, shot a sizzling 61 percent from the field (22 of 36) in the first 20 minutes and bolted to 53-21 lead at the half. Pellum and Simpson combined for 30 of the points on a 12 of 18 shooting performance.
The Bison (7-24 overall, 6-10 in the MEAC) were never able to get anything going as they missed 14 of 22 from the field and turned the ball over 11 times. Freshman forward Dadrian Collins, who was earlier named to the MEAC 2010 All-Rookie team along with teammate Mike Phillips, led the way with 7 points.
Hampton, which lost to Howard, 56-54 back on December 5, continued its torrid shooting in the second half as reserves Kwame Morgan and Brandon Tunnell took turns scoring against the Bison. The duo scored 25 points between them, with 20 coming in the second half.
Collins led the Bison with 11 points and Kandi Mukole added seven in a reserve capacity.
For the game, Howard shot 31 percent, was out worked in the paint, 48-18, and gave up 34 points off turnovers. The Bison dropped their last five games.
