Howard Drops 3-0 Decision To GW in DC College Cup

WASHINGTON DC Sept 4-- The Howard men’s soccer team concluded the 2005 D.C. College Cup with a 3-0 loss to George Washington University at Kehoe Field on the campus of Georgetown University. The loss drops the Bison to 0-2-0, as Howard continues to struggle offensively.
The Colonials (1-0-1) set the tone in the 6th minute when sophomore midfielder Greg McKay sent a pass from the right wing to junior forward Joseph Siegel, who scored off the far goalpost. Howard had difficulty keeping possession of the ball for much of the first half and was unable to break through the Colonials’ defensive backline.
Two minutes into the second half, the Colonials struck again on a beautifully struck drive from 25 yards out by senior forward Andre Chapman. Howard was reduced to 10 men when junior Keith Tucker III received a red card in the 71st minute. George Washington closed out the scoring on a goal by senior defender Benjamin Mortimer.
Howard’s offensive woes were evident as they were out-shot, 29-7. The Bison also won 3 corner kicks in comparison to George Washington’s 12.
Said Coach Keith Tucker, “The offense is dead. We need to understand where to pass the ball, to pass the ball to feet instead of playing through the air all the time. As long as we play with discipline, we’ll be able to deal with the defensive pressure.”
The bright spots for the Bison came from senior midfielder Bode Akingbohungbe and sophomore defender Haribo Kamara-Taylor, who were named to the all-tournament team.
Howard Will try to get its first when it takes on Atlantic Soccer Conference opponent, Florida International on September 10 at 7 p.m.on the road.
