Howard Falls To JMU in Soccer
Howard Falls To James Madison To Remain Winless
By Elliott Jones
WASHINGTON DC, Sept. 22--James Madison University used a balanced scoring attack, including four goals from four different scorers, to topple Howard, 4-0 in a non-conference match at Greene Stadium. The Dukes (4-2-1) were led by juniors Kurt Morsink and Andrew Walker, who each tallied a goal and an assist. The Bison (0-5-0) remain scoreless on the season.
JMU’s passing skills and ball control allowed it to dominate the possession throughout the match. Howard relied on numerous aerial balls played into the Dukes’ half of the field, but its attempts were often cleared away by central defenders, Mike Tuddenham (1 goal) and Danny Sheridan.
After goals in the 10th and 20th minutes, Walker’s scorching drive from 25 yards out put JMU up, 3-0 in the 24th minute and all but sealed the deal for the visitors.
Freshman goalkeeper Chris Taylor got his second consecutive start for the Bison and recorded 5 saves. The Bison were without defensive standout Haribo Kamara-Taylor, but they received a boost of offensive energy from junior Emile Innocent and sophomore Ike Onyewueyi. Howard continues to struggle in its ability to finish scoring chances, as only two of its seven shots were on goal.
The Bison’s next match is September 24 at Virginia Military Institute at 11 a.m.
