Feb. 3—Former Howard Men’s soccer
defender Idris Ughiovhe was selected in the fourth round of Major
League Soccer’s 2006 Supplemental Draft by the Chicago Fire.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 155-pound Ughiovhe played for four years at
Howard, playing a key role in the team’s defensive
backline. Ughiovhe was joined by four other players in his
selection to the Fire.
The MLS Supplemental Draft consisted of any eligible players
that were not selected in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft, which took place
on Jan. 20.
“We had identified several players heading into
today’s draft that we were hoping to choose, and got five
guys that were very high on our list,” said Fire Head Coach
Dave Sarachan. “We feel there are still a lot of
quality players in these rounds of the draft, so we did our
homework.”
Ughiovhe came to Howard after attending Wilson HS in Washington,
DC and was an All-Met selection in his senior year in
2001.
