                                       Bison Snap Losing Streak

Washington, DC-Sept. 27-Lemuel Lyons scored two goals and Joel Senior added two assists to help Howard University defeat VMI, 3-1 in a non-conference men's soccer game ay Greene Stadium.  The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Bison (2-7-1).

Howard had several chances in the first half, but was unable to capitalize as it went to halftime scoreless.

Then Lyons, a talented 6-1 sophomore forward, scored a spectacular goal on a beautiful give-and-go assist from freshman Joel Senior.

"That goal really ignited the team," said Howard Coach Keith Tucker.  "We have struggled most of the early season because we are so young.  But today's performance could be defining point for us."

The Keydets (2-7-0) came back and tied the score at 1-1 on a goal by Thurman Parker at the 68:57 mark.

But Howard, which has had second half letdowns all season, showed that they are maturing as Lyons put the Bison up for good on a goal that was assisted by Senior in the 74th minute.

"Lyons is still a freshman in terms of college soccer although he is a sophomore by classification," said Tucker.  "You saw today what he is capable of.  He has potential to be a special player."

Senior Jason Gross later added an insurance goal, also on an assist from Senior.  It marked the first time that the Bison have scored three goals in a game in over two years.

"You could see where we are beginning to share the ball and get different people involved," said Tucker.  "When that happens, the game of soccer becomes fun."

Chris Taylor was credited with a career-high 11 saves.

Howard travels to Newark, NJ to take on NJIT in an Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) match on Saturday, September 30 at 4:30 pm.
