Storer's Goal Lifts Howard to Win Over Navy

Washington, DC-October 10, 2006-Marcel Storer scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the second overtime to give Howard a hard-fought 3-2 win over Navy in a non-conference men's soccer game at Greene Stadium.  The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Bison (3-10-1).

Storer's goal came after being tackled in the box.  He measured his kick and rocketed it past Navy goalkeeper Evan Barnes for the game winner.

Howard had taken an early lead when Haribo Taylor scored on an unassisted goal less than five minutes into the game.  The Bison maintained the lead at halftime, but the Midshipmen finally got on the board when Zach Pleis scored unassisted.

The Bison appeared to have the game in hand when Michael Okoh converted on a free kick after Navy was penalized for a hand ball.  There was only 5:32 left in regulation when Okoh scored, but the Bison were caught off guard a little more than two minutes when Anthony Parker tied the game at 2-2 to send the match into extra period.

Both teams had chances in the first overtime but failed to convert, sending the game into an additional 10 minutes.

"It's always a boost when you stop a streak and get a win at home,' said Jason Gross.  "It is a confidence booster for us with a home conference game coming up on Friday night."

Howard hosts Philadelphia University on Friday at 7 pm in Greene Stadium in an Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC).
