Bison Booters battle the Mount to a 1-1 Tie
EMMITSBURG, MD. - Guilherme Fonseca scored in the 28th minute for the Bison as Howard and Mount St. Mary's battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Wednesday afternoon in men's soccer action.
Fonseca tallied his second goal of the season off a Joel Senior assist. Goalkeeper Chris Taylor turned away seven shots in the contest for HU (0-2-1).
The Mount's Gary Phinith scored in the 69th minute to square the match at 1-1. Both teams had several scoring chances in the final 40 minutes of play, but neither squad could net the decisive tally.
Howard's best chance in regulation came with a flurry of three shots in the 80th minute. After Fonseca and Jamil Devers each hit the post, Fonseca had a shot blocked by the Mount St. Mary's (0-1-2) defense in a span of 30 seconds.
In the first overtime, Joshua Barnaby missed high in the 91st minute for the Mount and Neil Ouska had his shot turned away by Taylor a minute later. Devers missed high in the 93rd minute and Rodino Wright missed wide in the 100th minute for the Bison.
Howard returns to action this weekend at the Drexel Tournament on Sept. 7-9.
