WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior Matt Marshall scored the only goal needed for the Howard men's soccer team, as the Bison shut out Houston Baptist for the 1-0 victory Friday night at Greene Stadium.
HU, which improves to 3-11-2 (1-1-1 ASC) on the year, handed the Huskies (6-9-0, 2-1-0 ASC) its first conference loss of the season. The Bison picked up its first league win en route to the shut out.
Marshall scored his third goal of the year with the winner in the 87th minute. Senior Harvey Livingston was credited with an assist after the throw in from a corner kick. Livingston recorded his first helper of the season.
HU came out strong in the opening half on both sides of the field, registering 10 shots while limiting HBU to eight. The Bison tallied its first shot on goal in the 19th minute on an attempt by Rodino Wright, but Huskie goalie Michael Bouchahine recorded the save.
Late in the second half, after pressuring in its offensive end for a while, the Bison ended the scoreless tie. Livingston served the ball deep in the box for Marshall, who headed home the winner.
Senior goalkeeper Victor Thomas finished with three saves, while Bouchahine stopped five shots.
Howard will wrap up its homestand on Sunday when it welcomes NJIT to Greene Stadium at 2 p.m.
