Boxscore

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The Howard University men's soccer squad went on the road to open the 2009 ASC season and came away with a scoreless tie in double overtime against Adelphi University on Saturday.

The Bison have battled to extra frames for the second straight game.

Howard (2-8-2, 0-0-1 ASC) got solid looks at the goal in the first half as Lemuel Lyons and Rodino Wright each attempted shots for HU. Meanwhile, the Bison defense allowed just five Panther shots with keeper Victor Thomas being forced to save only two balls.

Adelphi's John Kouznetsov had a chance in the 44th minute but it was stopped by Thomas as the squads went into the locker room scoreless.

The second half featured a different output from both teams as the Panthers (7-1-4, 0-0-1 ASC) fired off 11 shots while limiting Howard to one.

A Panther shot from Val Charalambous was stopped in the 82nd minute and Wright had a golden opportunity for Howard at 85:14 but that was blocked.  The defensive battle forced two extra periods.

Thomas came up with huge in the extra frames with seven of his career-high 16 saves to make the final 0-0.

The Bison will make the short trip to Annapolis, Md. on Wednesday for a contest against Navy.
