Bison Compete at DC Cup
FAIRFAX, VA - The Howard Univ. men's soccer team was looking to add a couple more wins, as they competed in the annual DC Cup hosted by George Mason. However, in day one of the tournament, the Bison suffered a 9-0 loss to George Mason.
Freshman defender Frederick Todd recorded two shots for the Bison. HU struggled offensively – recording just four shots.
"We had a lot of defensive errors, and most of their goals were made off of our errors. We beat ourselves," said head coach Michael Lawrence.
Goalkeeper Eric Hamilton and Michael Bellot split time at the goalie position, recording five and four saves, respectively.
In the second day of the DC Cup, the Bison improved their game play – ending with a 1-1 double overtime draw against the George Washington Colonials. With the previous loss, and the draw, the Bison are now 1-1-1 on the season.
Senior defender Gary Clarke recorded the tying goal in the 73rd minute. "Our true colors have shown that we weren't giving up," said Clarke. "Two days before, we took a lot from George Mason and we weren't going to let that happen again. I was satisfied but I still think we could have won the game."
The Bison are back in action for their home-opener against St. Francis (PA) on Wed. Sept. 7 at 7 pm.
