Garden City, NJ, November 10---Freshman Christopher Ingram
scored the game’s first goal to put
Howard on top but NJIT would go on to score four unanswered goals
to hand the Bison a 4-1 defeat in the Atlantic Soccer Conference
tournament at Motamed Field. Howard (3-13-2) came into the
tournament as the Number 4 seed while the Highlanders (5-11-2) were
seeded fifth.
The two teams had met less than a week ago in a regular season
match and Howard had
prevailed, 1-0 to set up this important encounter. Ingram’s
unassisted goal came at the 12:22 mark and gave the Bison a
boost.
But Christian Galindo tied the score at 1-1 less than five
minutes later. His goal was also
unassisted.
The two teams played evenly for a while after that until
NJIT’s Cristian Marcel’s goal in the 34th
minute broke the ice and gave his team the lead for good at
2-1.
Papis Ciss and Adisa Craig would go on to add insurance goals
two minutes apart as NJIT would
advance to the championship game against Adelphi.
The Bison were led in goal by freshman Michael Bellot, who
played all 90 minutes and recorded
five saves. The two teams were tied in corner kicks (3-3) and in
fouls (16-16). The Highlanders held a 9-4 advantage in shots on
goal.
NJIT will take on two-time defending ASC champion Adelphi on Friday night at 7 pm.
