Sep 23, 2007Brown Wins Consolation Title at Georgetown Classic![]() WASHINGTON, D.C. - The men's tennis team opened fall play at the Georgetown Classic and did not disappoint as freshman Christopher Brown won the men's consolation title. After dropping a 6-3, 6-3 decision Georgetown's Anthony Tan, Brown defeated Michael Land (Marist) by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and downed George Washington's Ryan Schlachter 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (5). Brown went on to defeat Casey Blythe (Johns Hopkins) 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals and Antonio Oliver (Marist) in the championship en route to the consolation title. George Diggs also had a good outing for the Bison. The freshman won his opening round match by defeating J. Famiglia (Marist) 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 but later fell in the second round to GW's S. Salyer. Neilahb Arvasti lost his opening round match by scores of 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (8) to W. Doucas of George Washington while Armon Murry downed P. Doucas (Georgetown) 6-2, 6-2 in his first decision before falling 7-5, 6-0 to Casey Blythe. In doubles action, Brown and Murray downed Land and Levinson, 8-2 in the first round before falling 8-3 to Schnell and Walsh of Georgetown. Diggs and Arvasti lost 8-4 in their opening round match to Paris and Wong (Georgetown). The Bison return to action on Oct. 12-14 when they compete at the Hampton Roads Invitational in Hampton, va. |
