BALTIMORE, MD. - The Howard men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday when it defeated Coppin State, 6-1, at the Druid Hill Park Courts in Baltimore.
Howard won all of its matchups after Christopher Brown fell to Viktor Lemberger, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Neilahb Avasthi picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Belind Kellici at No. 2 and Armon Murray won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3. Chad Jones blanked Javon Mallard, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and Amato Nocera defeted Sebastian Fomenko 1-0 before Fomenko retired.
Doubles action saw Brown and Murray win 8-5 over James Jeffreys and Lemberger, while Avasthi and Nocera blanked Kellici/Mallard at No. 2, 8-0.
HU returns to action on Tuesday with a matchup against George Mason at 3pm in Fairfax, Va.
