Bison Continue Strong Play at Georgetown Classic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard University men's tennis team continued its 2008 fall schedule with a strong performance at the Georgetown Classic, held this past weekend at the McDonough Tennis Complex.

Christopher Brown defeated Chris Armes (James Madison) 6-1, 6-1 and fell just short of the quarterfinals after losing to Freddi Voorman (UMBC) 6-3, 6-2 in the second round.

George Diggs fell 6-0, 6-4 to Georgetown's Adam Gross in the opening round while Hoya Mieszko Tomczyk defeated Michael Gee by default.

Omar Haloui also had a strong outing and finished as the runner-up in the consolation draw. Haloui made it all the way to the finals after taking down Andrew Bruhn 7-6 (3), 6-3 and teammate George Diggs 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.  Haloui fell 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3), 10-4 in a final round tough matchup with Kenneth Wong (Georgetown) to take home runner-up honors.

In other action, Diggs defeated Arya Vayghan (George Washington) 6-6 (3-0) before dropping his next contest to Haloui while Eric Chavous played a tough decision but was downed 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 by Georgetown's Paul Doucas.

Howard is off for a few weeks before returning to action on Oct. 10-12 at the Hampton Roads Invitational.
