Bison Bow to Highlanders

BOGOTA, N.J. - The NJIT men's tennis team defeated Howard 7-0 in a non-conference match at the Bogota Racquet Club on Saturday.

Devard Wharton, playing at No. 2 singles, rallied in his match against Carl Lundquist before falling in the third set. Wharton took the first set 7-6 before Lundquist posted a 6-4 win in the second set. Lundquist nipped Wharton 6-3 in the third and deciding set.

Eric Chavous took the second set during action at No. 4 singles but fell to Diego Abreu 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.

Wharton and Omar Haloui were edged 8-6 by Lundquist and Abreu in No. 1 doubles. Chavous and Tonique Merrell dropped an 8-6 No. 2 doubles matchup to Fraser Croad and Dimitri Athans before George Diggs/Brandon Burns were blanked at No. 3 doubles.

Howard (0-2) is off for two weeks before returning to action on Feb. 27 versus William and Mary.
