McCoy Stands Out In Howard Sweep

Baltimore, MD-April 2---Christina McCoy pitched a three hitter and help her cause by driving in six runs, including her first career grand slam home run to help Howard University defeat Coppin State University, 15-2, 15-1 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's softball doubleheader at Bachman Complex.

The freshman righthander from Corona, CA went the distance, allowing only three hits and striking out 9 batters.  As impressive as McCoy was on the mound, she was even more impressive at the plate, going 3-for-3 and driving in six runs to more than aid her cause.

McCoy got help from first baseman Jenifer Bien-Aime, who banged out three hits and rightfielder Courtney Young, centerfielder Tracy Javier and designated hitter Fallon Jones, who each collected two hits in the 15-2 win in the first game.

In the second game, junior Dale McNeal picked up the win, allowing only four hits and striking out two in four innings before giving way to McCoy to close out the 15-1 victory.  Jones and rightfielder Yasmin Humphrey provided the firepower as they combined to drive in five runs while Javier and shortstop Candice Tatum each had two hits for the Bison (18-12), who have now won four in a row and 11 out of their last 14.

Howard will try to extend its current win streak when it travels to Baltimore, MD to take on Morgan State this Saturday at 1 pm.  The Bison will then play back-to-back home games against Longwood on Sunday at 2 pm and Delaware State on Monday at 1 pm.
