Bison Defeat Pirates 8-1 to Avoid Series Sweep

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard softball team (10-12, 3-3 MEAC) finished its MEAC weekend matchup with an 8-1 win over Hampton Sunday afternoon at Greene Stadium.  The Pirates swept the Bison on day one, winning games one and two, 4-0 and 6-5, respectively.

Dale McNeal got the win for Howard on Sunday and pitched six innings, giving up three hits while striking out five. She was helped by junior Sondra Jones who went 3-for-3 and freshmen Emily Johnson who drove in three RBI while finishing 2-of-3.

The Howard bats woke up in the finale versus Hampton, scoring runs in three of six innings including five in the fifth. Johnson had a three-run homer and junior Jennifer Bien-Amie drove in two runs.

Saturday's contests proved to be a different story as Howard could muster only two hits in the opener. The Bison took a 3-0 lead in the nightcap and pounded out 10 hits, but was edged 6-5 in eight innings.

The Lady Bison return to action on Wednesday with a pair of games against Coppin State beginning at 2pm at Banneker Stadium.
