Howard Blanks Bowie State on Senior Day
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard softball team blanked Bowie State, 8-0 in a non-conference matchup on senior day at Banneker Stadium. Today's decision marked the final appearance for five Bison seniors, Fallon Jones, Mya Spencer, Candice Tatum, Brianne Gutierrez and Dale McNeal.
Howard got on board when Gutierrez's right field double sent Sondra Jones and Jessica Norwood across the plate in the third inning. The Bison added another run when Gutierrez scored on a single by Emily Johnson, putting HU up 3-0.
Gutierrez hit a two-run homer in the fourth to put the Bison up 5-0. Courtney Young's home run plated another run for HU in the fifth while Jones and Gutierrez each scored in the sixth to seal the win for Howard. McNeal (9-9) picked up the win and struck out five batters while Heather Enders took the loss for the Bulldogs while falling to 13-6.
The Bison return to action this weekend with a three-game series against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.
