Feb 23, 2008Howard Opens Up Season With a Pair of Losses to CampbellBoxscore (Game 1) BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Lady Bison softball team opened up its season with a pair of losses to Campbell on Saturday afternoon in Buies Creek, N.C. Howard dropped an 11-2 decision to the Camels and game one and were nipped 5-3 in game two. In the opener, Campbell (9-3) out hit the Bison 9-3 and picked up 11 RBI to one by HU. The Camels got on the board early when Karlie Love homered to send three across the plate in the first inning. Campbell added two more runs in the third and another in the fifth before Howard scored twice in the top of the sixth. Candice Tatum scored the first run on a wild pitch and Jennifer Bien-Amie sent Courtney Young across the plate for Howard's second run of the inning. Campbell took a 4-0 advantage in the second decision before Howard added two runs in the fifth to close within two runs of the lead at 4-2. Quinn scored for the Camels in the sixth and Tatum's triple sent Brianne Gutierrez across the plate for HU in the seventh, but it would not be enough as Campbell walked away with the 5-3 win. Howard returns to action this weekend at the College of Charleston Invitational in Charleston, S.C. The Bison will face off against East Tennesse State on Feb. 29 and UNC Wilmington and Akron on day two (March 1) of the invite. HU wraps up play at the CofC Invite on March 2 with contests against Marist and the host Cougars at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. |
