NORFOLK, VA. - The Lady Bison softball squad took down Norfolk State, 11-6 and 7-2, in non-conference doubleheader Friday afternoon in Norfolk, Va. Howard won its third straight with the pair of wins and improved to 3-8 on the season while NSU dropped to 6-13.
The Spartans had an early 4-2 lead in the opener before HU scattered eight runs over three innings, opening up a 10-4 advantage. Emily Johnson went 3-4 with three runs and one RBI while Sondra Jones, Brianne Gutierrez and Mya Spencer each had two hits apiece. Ace Dale McNeil picked up the win for Howard while Jessica Hurston added one inning of relief.
The Bison held the Spartans to six hits and two runs in the second decision. Courtney Young went a perfect 4-4 with two runs and two RBI while seven different Bison picked up at least one hit. Spencer added three RBI.
Howard returns to action on Thursday, March 20 when it hosts Slippery Rock in its home debut. Game time is slated for 1 pm at Banneker Field.
