Softball Fares Well in Fall Season Opener

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard softball team opened the fall portion of its schedule this past weekend and fared well in scrimmages against UMBC and George Washington. The Bison defeated the Retrievers 10-1 on Sept. 28 but later fell 6-0 to the Colonials on Sept. 30.

HU is coming off its best season ever under the tutelage of Head Coach Tonja Braxton. The 2007 Bison squad advanced to its first-ever NCAA Tournament and won the MEAC Championship for the first time in the program's history. Howard went 35-21 in 2007 and set a school record with the 35 wins.

The Lady Bison return several key performers including both starting pitchers and three of the top four hitters from last season. Courtney Young, the 2007 MEAC Rookie of the Year, Kristina Cordova, Dale McNeal, Jennifer Bien Aime, Candice Tatum and Brianne Gutierrez all return to anchor the veteran squad.
