Bison Split With Retrievers

BALTIMORE, MD. - The Howard softball team split a doubleheader with UMBC Wednesday afternoon in Baltimore, Md. The Retrievers won the opener 3-1 but the Bison responded with an 11-6 victory in the nightcap.

The Lady Bison exploded for four runs in the first inning of the nightcap. HU capitalized on three errors by UMBC and later pushed the lead to 5-0 on an RBI single by shortstop Rebecca Kirshner.

The Retrievers put together five runs and tied things up at 5-5, but a two-run homer by Christine Sborz in the sixth pushed the Bison advantage to 11-5. UMBC added a run in the next inning, but it was not enough as Howard walked away with the 11-6 victory.

In the 3-1 loss in the opener, the Lady Bison got on board in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Ciera Gordon.

Howard (6-11) is off for one week before returning to action on March 24 against George Mason. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 4 pm in Fairfax, Va.
