WASHINGTON, D.C. - Emily Johnson went 3-3 with a double and run scored to help Howard to a 5-2 victory over Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference North rival Hampton on Sunday afternoon at Banneker Field to complete a three game sweep.

The Pirates (18-31, 6-3) jumped out to a quick lead with a two run first inning that was highlighted by a Tamara Vickers solo home run.

After the shaky first, Bison (18-16, 8-1) pitching would not allow another run as Carly Martin recorded the victory to improve to 6-6 on the season, and Emily Johnson notched her second save.

In the bottom half of the second inning, Howard’s Trina Kindred scorched a two RBI double to center field and would later come around to score on a Courtney Young single to give the Bison the lead for good.

Howard added two more runs in the fifth to extend their current winning streak to five games, which ties a season high.

Hampton entered the weekend undefeated in the MEAC’s Northern Division and in sole possession of first place.  At the end of the weekend, it is the Bison who hold the top spot in the division.

Howard will face cross-town rival Georgetown this Wednesday for a doubleheader at Guy Mason Field.  Game one is set to begin at 3pm.
