CHARLESTON, S.C. - Howard was swept by Charleston Southern in a non-conference doubleheader at Buccaneer Field Thursday afternoon 5-0 and 3-2 respectively.
Buccaneers (27-26) junior Sondra Vetter dominated the Bison's (21-18) lineup by pitching a complete game three hit shutout in the opening game.
Vetter received all the run support she would need in the very first inning, as Jana Matthews hit a two run home run to put Charleston Southern up 3-0.
Trea Steele made the score 4-0 with a lead off homer in the fourth inning.
Howard's bats came to life early in game two, as Nicole Saez knocked in Lorae Robinson and Aisha Ledet on a single to center field giving the Bison a 2-0 first inning lead.
Howard would not be able to hold the lead for long. In the bottom of the fourth inning with the score tied at two, Trea Steele came to the plate and hit her second solo home run of the afternoon and put Charleston Southern up for good.
Howard will wrap up their series with Charleston Southern today in South Carolina before traveling to Princess Anne, Maryland for their weekend showdown with Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) North foe Maryland Eastern Shore.
