Howard Sweeps Delaware State in Conference Opener

DOVER, DEL. - The Howard softball team completed a MEAC series sweep of Delware State with a 13-4 win on Saturday. HU took both ends of the doubleheader on Friday, 10-5 and 7-5.

Sophomore Trina Kindred was a perfect 4-for-4 in the finale on Saturday. Ciera Gordon and Nicole Saez added three hits apiece while Christine Sborz contributed a pair of hits.

Kindred finished with a game-high five RBI while Gordon and Sborz batted in two runs each.

Junior ace Carly Martin got the win on the mound for HU while Emily Johnson pitched the final 3.2 innings in relief.

In the opener on Friday, Gordon paced the Bison with a 2-for-4 outing to go along with two RBI. Sborz went 2-for-3 with one run while Lorae Robinson and Courtney Young crossed the plate three times each.

Friday's nightcap saw the Bison win 7-5 despite trailing 11-7 in the hits column. Kindred and classmate Rebecca Kirshner had two hits apiece while five Bison contributed one hit each.

Pitcher Christina McCoy picked up the win for the Lady Bison and Brittney Stallworth also saw action on the mound.

Howard (13-13, 3-0 MEAC) travels to Farmville, Va. on Tuesday, April 6 for a non-conference doubleheader against Longwood.
