Bethune-Cookman Defeats Howard
ORMOND BEACH, FLA. - No. 1 Howard was defeated by second seeded Bethune-Cookman, 4-1, in the second round of the MEAC Championship. The loss pits the Bison against North Carolina A&T in a 9 a.m. decision tomorrow.
The loss snapped a nine-game win streak for the Bison.
BCU went up 3-0 in the first inning after Hinds was walked and moved to second on a single. Tafoya then singled to left field to plate Hinds. Garcia and Ferguson each had plated a run that stanza.
Aisha Ledet and Sondra Jones both singled in the third, but the Bison would leave both runners stranded.
Freshman Trina Kindred was walked as the lead off batter in the fourth before Courtney Young grounded out in a double play.
Howard (21-27) got a run across in the fifth when Rebecca Kirshner scored on Wildcat throwing error.
Bethune-Cookman's Ally Garcia got the win after giving up six hits while striking out six batters. Junior Christina McCoy picked up the loss for Howard and dropped to 5-6 on the season.
