Bison Defeat Alcorn St., Southern at Tiny Laster Classic

CONYERS, GA. - The Howard softball team opened up its regular season with a pair of wins at the Tiny Laster HBCU Classic (formerly the MEAC/SWAC Challenge) on Feb. 7-8 in Conyers, Ga.

HU downed Alcorn State 4-2 while taking down Southern 9-8 in extra innings.

Against Alcorn, Courtney Young paced HU with two hits and three RBI.

Trina Kindred finished with a pair of runs while Aisha Ledet and Sondra Jones added one run each.

Sophomore Jessica Hurston got the win after going the complete game, giving up just four hits and one walk.

Howard defeated Southern on a game-winning RBI from sophomore Emily Johnson. Young finished with a pair of homeruns and two RBI before being intentionally walked in the final innings.

Freshman Rebecca Kirshner and senior Jennifer Bien-Amie added two hits apiece and Nicole Saez added two hits of her own.

Hurston got the win in that contest as well, pitching a solid four innings while striking out two batters.

HU finished 2-2 in the Classic after falling to Mississippi Valley State, 3-1 in its opening matchup. The Lady Bison later were later downed 4-1 at the hands of Alabama A&M.
