EMMITSBURG, MD. - Howard earned a split with Mount St. Mary's Wednesday afternoon in Emmitsburg, Md. The Mount edged HU 9-7 in game one but the Lady Bison won 6-2 in the night cap.
Sophomore ace Jessica Hurston got the win in game two. The Connecticut native went the distance while striking out two batters.
Howard got their bats going early in the night cap as Lorae Robinson, Ciera Gordon and Courtney Young all scored for HU. Young's double scored Robinson and Gordon, and Young was later plated on a sac fly by Emily Johnson.
Mount St. Mary's scored in the third but HU added three more insurance runs in the sixth. Johnson got things going with a center field triple and Nicole Saez's RBI sent her across the plate.
Kindred later plated Saez and Rebecca Kirshner to give the Bison a 6-1 lead after six innings.
Game one saw the Bison take a 7-2 lead until MSM scored six runs in the bottom fifth. Howard scattered a run in the sixth and seventh but it was not enough to regain the lead.ac
HU travels to Hampton this weekend for a three-game series against the Lady Pirates.
