Bison Swept By Pirates

Game One Boxscore (Hampton 3, Howard 2)
Game Two Boxscore (Hampton 6, Howard 0)
Game Three Boxscore (Hampton 6, Howard 5)

HAMPTON, VA. - The Lady Bison softball team was swept by Hampton during a three-game series at Lady Pirates Field. Howard fell 3-2 and 6-0 on day one before being edged 6-5 in the finale on Sunday.

Hampton took an early 3-0 lead in game one. Tiffany Brents scored for the Pirates in the first inning and Evelyn Garcia homered for the three-run lead after two innings.

Howard scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning and close within a run of the lead. Lorae Robinson tripled and plated Carly Martin while Courtney Young returned the favor later, scoring Robinson on a center field single. It would not be enough, however, as the Bison managed one hit in the top of the seventh.

Hampton out hit Howard 9-4 in game two. Martin, Young, Robinson and Aisha Ledet each picked up a hit for the Bison.

The Lady Pirates capitalized on several Bison miscues for a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Sophomore Jessica Hurston got the loss on the mound for Howard while Amanda Black improved to 12-9 with the win.

The finale on Sunday was a nip and tuck affair for both squads. Hampton took a 3-0 lead after two innings but the Bison closed within a run in the third on Nicole Saez' RBI single.

Young's double in the fifth plated Trina Kindred and tied things up at 3-3. Saez and Ciera Gordon each plated runs that inning to give the Bison a 5-3 lead.

Saunders had a solo home run in the sixth to close the Pirates within a run of the lead, setting up a Hampton comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Weissenback plated Garcia and Rebecca Magett, the latter the game-winning run, on a left field single.

Howard (12-24, 1-4 MEAC) will try to rebound on Wednesday when it hosts Delaware State at Banneker Stadium.
