MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - Aisha Ledet had a pinch-hit grand slam in the fifth inning as Howard defeated the College of Charleston, 5-1 Sunday evening in the last game of the CofC Cougar Classic.

HU took the early lead in the second inning as sophomore Emily Johnson homered to left field for a 1-0 lead.

With the score tied at 1-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Bison loaded the bases on a single, fielder's choice and a walk before bringing in Ledet to pinch-hit for Morgan Plowden. Ledet then drilled a towering shot down the left field line for a grand slam, giving Howard a 5-1 advantage.

That would be all they would need as HU allowed only a pair of hits the rest of the way to move to 3-6 on the season.

Sophomore Jessica Hurston picked up the victory after pitching three innings of scoreless, three hit relief. Junior Christina McCoy got the start and went four innings, allowing four hits, one run and striking out four. Offensively, Ledet's four RBI led the way while Johnson went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI on her solo home run.

The Bison wrapped up play at the CofC Classic with a 1-4 record, falling to James Madison (10-3), East Tennesse State (12-3), Syracuse (8-2) and Akron (2-1).

Courtney Young went 2-3 with one RBI in the JMU loss while Rebecca Kirshner added a pair of hits. Jennifer Bien-Aime went 3-4 while Ledet and Sondra Jones added one hit each.

Bien-Aime, Young and Trina Kindred chipped in two hits apiece against ETSU and Kindred had a game-high three hits against the SU. Johnson and Kirshner added two hits each in the loss to the Orange.

Plowden went 1-3 with one run in the loss to the Zips.

Howard is back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 18 with a doubleheader against Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C.
