WOODSTOCK, GA. - Howard opening up play at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic with a 1-0 loss to Akron. The Lady Bison later fell to Austin Peay in its final matchup of the day.

In the first contest, Carly Martin went the distance for HU, pitching five inning while giving up just hits and two walks. Martin gave up the only run of the game in the fifth inning as L. McLean scored for the Zips (6-7).

Howard got one hit apiece from Courtney Young, Jennifer Bien-Amie, Nicole Saez and Ciera Gordon.

Gordon went a perfect 4-for-4 against Austin Peay. Freshman Rebecca Kirshner was 3-for-4 while Saez and Tierra Maxwell had two hits apiece.

Sophomore Jessica Hurston picked up the loss for HU (3-10).

Howard is back in action tomorrow with matchups against Indiana State and Georgia State.
