Howard Defeats Mercer on Final Day of Buzz Classic; Martin Named to All-Tournament Team
WOODSTOCK, GA. - The Lady Bison softball squad defeated Mercer, 5-3 to wrap up play at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic on Sunday. Howard finished 2-3 on the weekend and sophomore pitcher Carly Martin was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.
HU scored twice in the
bottom of the fourth on RBI doubles by Sondra Jones and Ciera
Gordon.
The Bison scored again in the fifth when Courtney
Young had a solo home run to left field.
Mercer (15-9) trailed 3-1 until
Sara Stukes' home run tied things up in the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, freshman Rebecca Kirshner launched a
two-run, walk-off homer to give the Lady Bison the victory.
Martin earned the complete-game win, allowing just two earned runs
in seven innings.
Howard (5-11) faces off with UMBC in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
