WASHINGTON, D.C. - Howard rallied from a three-run deficit in game one to sweep a double header from Maryland Eastern Shore in MEAC action. The win was the eighth straight for the streaking Bison, who improved to 9-4 in league play with the victories.
Nicole Saez combined to go 4-for-7 with three runs and eight RBI to lead HU. Courtney Young finished the day 4-for-8 with four runs and four RBI to help pace the Lady Bison.
The Hawks went up 3-0 in the first as Mishayla Truttman had a three-run homer to plate Cassandra Carlos and Chelsea Logan.
Howard got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Lorae Robinson scored on a wild pitch for HU.
UMES added a run in the next inning when Hannah Mills scored for the Hawks.
Maryland Eastern Shore led 5-2 in the fourth before the Bison opened up the game with a six-run fourth inning. Saez had a two-run homer and Young followed with a three-run single blast to left center.
The Lady Bison took a 5-0 lead in the first inning of game two thanks to a three-run home run by Emily Johnson. Saez added a two-run homer later that stanza.
In the fourth, Howard set the table for four more Bison runs. Young singled to the left side and moved Trina Kindred to second before Rebecca Kirshner reached base in the next at bat. With the bases loaded, Saez plated four runs with a grand slam that put the Bison up 9-2.
Howard will conclude its three-game set with UMES tomorrow at noon.
