ORMOND BEACH, FLA. - The Howard softball team earned the No. 1 seed in the north for the upcoming MEAC Championship, slated for May 7-9 at the Ormond Beach (Fla.) Sports Complex.
Despite missing two conference games due to inclement weather, HU earned the conference's top spot in the north with a 9-4 mark, 20-26 overall record.
The streaking Bison have won their last eight decisions and open up tourney play against North Carolina A&T (No. 4 seed, south) on Thursday at 10 a.m.
Florida A&M (No. 1 seed, south)
will face Maryland Eastern Shore (No. 4 seed, north), also at 10
a.m. on Thursday. Games three and four, pitting
Bethune-Cookman (No. 2 seed, south) against Hampton (No. 3 seed,
north) and Delaware State (No. 2 seed, north) against Norfolk State
(No. 3 seed, south), begins at 1:30 p.m. The championship
finale is set for Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m.
Only the top four teams in each division can compete in the
two-game elimination tournament and vie for the championship
title. Morgan State (7-7), Coppin State (2-11) and South
Carolina State (0-12) have been eliminated from post season play
based on their conference finish and/or tiebreaking procedures.
